Your First Skills Clinic at Trail Hub: What to Expect with Minii Adventures

Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at your first clinic with Minii Adventures — and why it might just be the start of your best biking season yet.

a mountain bike instructor leads a group through wheel lift drills.

You’ve got the bike, the helmet, and the curiosity — now what? If you’ve been thinking about joining a weekend skills clinic but aren’t quite sure what to expect, don’t worry. We’re breaking it all down so you can show up feeling ready, excited, and 1000% supported from the very first pedal stroke.

It All Starts at Trail Hub

All of our weekend skills clinics take place at Trail Hub, a dreamy trailhead perched at the highest point in Durham Region. With over 240 km of surrounding trails through Durham Forest, Walker Woods, Glen Major, and Dagmar North, it’s the perfect home base to learn and ride.

We’ll meet in the lower parking lot near the HandleBar Grill trailer — look for a friendly crew with bikes, smiles, and probably some sunscreen smudges.

The Vibe? Supportive, Chill, and Fun

Clinics run in small groups (usually 6 riders per instructor) and last 2.5 hours — either 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM or 1:30 PM to 4:00 PM. We keep the vibe low-pressure, high-stoke.

Every session starts with introductions, a bike check, and a quick warm-up. Then, we dive into a focused skill or two — think cornering, wheel lifts, braking technique, or learning to ride techy terrain with confidence.

What You’ll Learn and Practice

Depending on your chosen clinic, you might work on:

  • Body positioning and how to move

  • Braking technique and traction control

  • Cornering (the real way, not just “lean and pray”)

  • Riding over roots and rocks

  • Lifting your front (or rear) wheel

  • Line choice on technical features

  • How to get air on jumps

  • Dropping it like it's hot on technical drops

It’s a mix of drills and trail application — which means you’ll learn a skill, then immediately go try it out in a real trail environment with guidance and feedback. The trails at Trail Hub are ideal for learning, with varied terrain, flowy sections, and just the right amount of challenge to help you progress with confidence.

What to Bring

  • Your mountain bike (in good working order)

  • Helmet (required!)

  • Water + snacks (we have you covered if you forget)

  • Gloves + sunglasses (recommended)

  • A positive attitude (nerves welcome, but you’ll leave smiling regardless)

Common FAQs:

Are there bathrooms or change rooms at Trail Hub? → Yes! There are clean, accessible washrooms located in the lower level of the chalet, and space to change if needed.

If I forget my lunch, can I buy food on site? → You bet. The HandleBar Grill trailer serves delicious eats and cold drinks during peak hours, perfect for post-clinic refuelling. Or stick around for a patio lunch or upscale dinner at Nest, Trail Hub’s farm-to-table restaurant with a killer view.

Can I explore the trails after the clinic? → Absolutely. Your clinic includes a Trail Hub day pass, so feel free to stick around and put your new skills to use on the local trails.

Where Skills Meet Singletrack Magic

With flowy terrain, varied features, and an unbeatable setting, Trail Hub is one of the best places in Ontario to level up your mountain biking. Whether you're mastering the basics or pushing into more advanced skills, the trails here create the perfect classroom — and the view doesn't hurt either.
